Youth Self-Employment Program for Sustainable Livelihoods in Anuradhapura.
Executive Summary
Anuradhapura District faces chronic underemployment and lack of economic opportunities for rural youth. Many
young people migrate to urban areas or abroad due to the lack of skill-based jobs or startup capital. The lack of
self-employment and entrepreneurship training has limited their potential. This project aims to empower youth
through vocational training, entrepreneurship coaching, and startup support, enabling them to build sustainable
livelihoods locally.
Project Objectives
Main Objective:
To support 250 rural youth in Anuradhapura to establish self-employment ventures and improve economic
independence.
Specific Objectives:
· Provide vocational and entrepreneurship training
. Offer startup toolkits or seed capital grants
. Mentor and monitor new youth-led businesses
· Promote local job creation and reduce migration
Monitoring & Evaluation
· Pre- and post-training assessments
· Quarterly business performance reports
· Income tracking through self-reporting and site visits
· Final evaluation after 18 months
Expected Outcomes
· 250 youth trained in vocational and business skills
250 new micro-enterprises started
. Increased family income by at least 50% within a year
· Reduction in youth unemployment and rural-urban migration
Beneficiary Selection Criteria
. Age between 18-35 years
. From a low-income household
. Not currently employed full-time
· Willingness to complete training and run a business
